You have to lock it in, by twisting it to the right once you attach it. Suction is very good, but not the strongest that I've ever had. I didn't expect it to be very strong at only 575 watts, but it is definitely stronger than I thought it would be. The machine seems to be built pretty well. But, again, I've only had it for one day. Update: several months later and I can not say enough good things about this machine. Its still extremely quiet and powerful. I use the machine in a commercial setting on a daily basis. Still going strong!! People complaining about the hose not staying attached, don't know how to twist and lock it in place. So, don't go by their reviews.
