Looks like a very hurried job. Assembled, then slathered with paint, which ran thru the holes used for stitching. The cover itself is only a thick vellum (paper) made from scraped goat or sheep skin. Paint smudges on the inside of both covers as well as the first and last pages and the top corners of the pages of the entire book.
