I'm an old guy and haven't ridden a bicycle in 20 years but needed to get some exercise to get my heart rate up for 30 minutes a day; I am done with gyms, don't want a treadmill in my small house or a stationary bike.... but did have a chance to obtain a Trek mountain bike from my family but the Bontrager straight bar had to go... I wanted to sit up right and just pedal my way around my neighborhood. Didn't want to buy a bicycle, but converting this bike to a beach cruiser seemed to me like a good idea to get exercise for 30 minutes a day. I did have to buy some bicycle shims for the handlebars to fit the stem riser because mountain bike handlebars have larger diameters where the handlebar fits the stem riser. Standard sizes are different between mountain bikes and regular bikes. The handlebar has a 25.4 mm diameter. The mountain bike Bontrager stem riser is 31.8 mm; so I found some shims on desertcart to make the fit. I wanted black handlebars, but due to the demand for bike parts, all I could find was chrome...that's okay... I'll just wrap the chrome bars black. Review: Comfortable cruising - These large cruiser handlebars gave me enough rise and sweep to comfortably sit upright while pedaling. No more back pain from being hunched over for this aging bicyclist.
