They were just what I needed. They also have a good sound for plucking. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good Orchestral Strings *by D***C on January 28, 2014* I just bought a Shen SB100 bass three months ago. This Shen is a laminated bass. It's not an expensive bass ($2200), but it's well regarded and very well made. I asked that Bel Canto strings be installed on the bass (since I was buying it new). I had never used Bel Cantos but I had read good reviews on the TalkBass.com forum. The Bel Cantos seemed to be very good, but they were a high tension string (in my opinion) and I was working a little too hard to press them down. Other Shen owners had said on the forum that sometimes you need to try out several brands of strings before you will find one that plays well and sounds good with your instrument. My next set of strings were D'Addario Kaplans. I felt they were an improvement over the Bel Cantos. Less tension and a great tone. But I wasn't happy with the response I was getting from the A and E strings. I had used Helicores in the past. I knew that they were a reliable all-around string. So I decided to get a set of Helicores. Since I liked the sound of the Kaplan D and G I decided to put together a "Hybrid" set using the Hellicores on A and E. It worked great and that is what I have stayed with now. I did put the Helicore G and D on as well and they were fine, but I really liked the sound of the Kaplans on G and D and since I had them and had the luxury of mixing and matching, that was my final choice.
