My foot is borderline between "normal" and "wide" width. Depending on the brand and style I can get away with normal width shoes, while others feel to tight around the sides of my foot. These shoes, however, fit very wide. Even with my somewhat wider foot, they felt very loose around the side, while the length was a good fit. I guess in this style I would need 4.5 normal width. If you do not always need a wide shoe, definitely get regular in this model. Other than the wide fit, it is a comfortable shoe.

Bought these shoes for my 6-year-old twins prior to our Disney World trip. They needed new and comfortable shoes, and you just can't go wrong with New Balance. Our boys typically wear extra wide shoes (very hard to find wide variety of those), but we took a chance that the standard wides would work. They fit just fine. Our boys haven't complained about them being too tight across the arch once. And they love the way the shoes look. They say it makes them run faster! We will definitely buy New Balance again.

These have become my 5 year old's favorite shoes! They provide great support for his developing foot and can withstand the tough play of a 5 year old boy. He runs, plays soccer, baseball and rides his bike daily and these still look brand new a month into owning them. His only complaint is that the laces come untied quickly and he wishes they were waxed like his hockey skate laces.
