Dover is a great all-around high fire white stoneware clay. It fires white in oxidation and reduction. Great for throwing and hand building. Cone: 7-10, Wet Color: Grey, Texture: Smooth, Penetrometer Target: 7.5, Avg. Shrinkage ±2%:12%, Avg. Water Absorption ±1%: 1%

I like to finish my pieces with a smooth river stone and it leaves a beautiful finish. **Q: Does this shrink when baked? If so whats the percentage**
A: All clay shrinks when baked

**Q: Will this work for fire brick?**
A: Use real fire brick. They’re inexpensive and they withstand higher heat that the clay.  Clay will also be too brittle to withstand the day to day use.

**Q: This clay feels very much like porcelain is it porcelain?**
A: I’m pretty sure that it’s not porcelain which is fine grained, fired at high temperature, and contains quartz and feldspar. Your clay fires at a lower temperature and will have a dull pink look when fired. Porcelain fires to a white color.

**Q: What kind of shelf life does clay have?**
A: Forever if you keep it wet

This clay has been lovely to work with. It arrived on time and when I received it, it was in ready to use condition and I was able to get started immediately. This clay has a nice texture and is super easy to work and clean up. Currently I am hand building heads and busts. The clay is just the right consistency and not messy or sticky. My hands do not tire even though I am creating a larger-than-life size head/ bust sculpture (as it will shrink 10 to 15% in the kiln when fired). I highly recommend it.
