Fortunately, I marked my cut to leave 2mm beneath the head stem cap, so I was left with 1.25-1mm of space which is still sufficient. A better method, in hindsight, would have been to use masking tape at the cutting edge. That would have been much more visible. This is a quality tool that will outlive me, and does exactly what it is designed to do - provide very accurate, square cuts in tubing. Review: Works great with carbon and easaily turns into an "SG-6" for metal steerer tubes - I wasn't sure which Park Tool saw guide to buy because I cut both carbon and metal steerer tubes. I really didn't want to spend double to get both tools. It turns out the design is really simple and there is a metal plate held in by two screws which spaces the saw guide about 2.6mm which is the width of a carbide hack saw blade. So with some 1mm thick washers I was able to convert this tool to an "SG-6" really easily. Just remove the two allen screws and put in 1mm washers IN PLACE (the included thicker plate is in the spot you'd put these int he picture I posted) of the provided spacer plate to cut alloy / steel steerer tubes.
