Review: Keeps the herons and raccoons from getting to my fish! - Update 4/10/17 - This net is working! No missing fish since installed. Had 2 raccoon visits and although they made a mess around the pond and even paw prints on the net itself, they were not able to get thru to my fish and net is still intact! Wife has also caught the Great Blue Heron sitting on our roof looking into the pond, said it looked "confused" lol. Good, he probably sees the net and is afraid to approach! Original Post: So far, so good. This is my last hope. I've tried everything...scarecrow motion sprinkler, mirrors around the pond, fishing line crisscrossed across the pond, rock hiding structures at the bottom of my pond, everything! And still these darn Herons are getting away with my koi and gold fish. Up til now, the scarecrow was doing a great job by itself but when the battery dies in it (and I don't know it's dead) then it's open season on my pond. I'm hoping this net will be the final piece in my solution to keep my koi safe. I've lost at least 30 fish over 2 years and 4 of my prized koi. My last and largest koi was taken a few months ago by a raccoon of all things. Again, scarecrow was in place but did not deter this hungry racoon. Hoping this netting will work. Very fast shipping, arrived the next day! Nicely packaged. Net itself is a nice vinyl/plastic mesh, small squares. Easily unwraps for installation and easy to cut to trim around the edges of my pond. Hopefully it's strong enough to hold back the beak of a Heron but will have to wait and see. I installed it ~ 6-7" above the water line in my pond (I anchored it with camping stakes from Walmart, 50cents each). Net is almost invisible and does not block the view of the pond or fish, very happy about that! Previously I had used "clear" fishing line but it looked awful. Review: Very cheap option to keep leaves out of pool - This thing is huge. The netting looks well made and hard to tear even after snagging on rocks and twigs. The netting is very light but will stay in place if properly staked or attached to a frame. I ended up making a frame out of pvc piping and zipped tied the netting to the frame. This way the whole thing is easily dissembled and put away when swimming season starts. It’s been great keeping leaves from sinking to the bottom and easily to sweep with the pool net. I haven’t even trimmed the excessive netting but instead rolled it up and tucked it under the pvc framing. It doesn’t look pretty but is functional. This was a viable option for less than a $100 when compared to other more expensive options. We were quoted several thousand for a pool cover! My friends liked how simple it was to do and borrowed my idea for their pools.

**Q: Will this netting keep ducks from koi pond?**
A: I seriously doubt it. Ducks have BIG beaks so it would be very easy for them to rip this to shreds with one swipe. I would suggest something more sturdy and heavy such as fish netting made of thin rope or similar. I saw some on Ebay: such as "Used Commercial Fishing Net ~ Vintage Fish Netting ~ Old Recycled Reclaimed" ( they have sold 4630 of them) Good luck !

**Q: Will it protect fish from being flooded out of the fountain during heavy rain?**
A: have only used it on ground level fish pond. It works fine for me. No idea how it would work on a fountain This netting needs to be secured and taut.

**Q: Is there a netting that will keep helicopters from maple trees out?**
A: This netting is 3/8" mesh and catches a lot of debris. Unfortunately there's not an exact list of what it could catch. Hope that helps.

**Q: Do I need a frame, or will it float on the water?**
A: It sort of floats, but gets tangled, especially if leaves fall on it.  We used thick wire to create a flexible frame that we put some rocks on to hold in place....that works perfect.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Not perfect; but good overall

This net looks good, the mesh appears to be a nice size and was easy to install. However, this pond net doesn't seem to float too good. It kinda dips down into the water; even more so if there are leaves on it. It needs to be supported on all sides to keep it in place. One bird somehow got under the net (I'm still stumped on how that happened). I'm glad I noticed the bird before it drowned. Also, I noticed months later that there was a dead snake trapped in the mesh. I'm not sure how long the snake was there before I noticed it. This net seems to be somewhat durable. I say somewhat because it did rip kinda easy at one spot (on the far edge of it). Other than that, this net seems to be pretty good. I like it.
