Measure the draft from the line on the hull and the height of the transom. Most motors work best at 5"-10" below the water's surface. You can determine where your prop would be reasonably well with the above measurements and decide whether a 30" shaft is sufficient. It probably is. If you intend to take the boat in a large body of water, you'd be better off with a higher-thrust motor. By the way, so far as I can tell (my NV-36 is mounted on a kayak and the lakes are still frozen), this seems to be quite a good product and I had a very good experience with the seller. There is a height adjustment collar located just above the transom bracket that allows you to position the height of the motor to your application. There is also a directional lock that allows you freely rotate the motor 180 degrees when loose or to lock it in a direction when fully tightened.
