It shows you how much charge remaining until the batteries are fully charged.I find it extremely useful. And it takes almost all kinds of batteries. I mainly got this unit for C and D cells. But it take AAA & AA & 9V as well. You put the batteries inside the charger and shut the lid and it starts charging. Simple. And this is not expensive as well very reasonably priced. There are 4 charging 'points' and you can choose to put one small battery (AA or AAA) in one point. Of course, you can also put two small batteries in each point to get the full 8-at-a-time figure. This also only applies to the small batteries. Cs and Ds are charged individually in each point, so their max is only 4 at a time total. **Q: So: how many batteries would this charge (in total) at one-time~~?!?!?!?** A: The OLDER CHFC2 model could charge up to 8 AAs, 8 AAAs, and 4 Cs or Ds. You could also charge variations, say 4 AAs in two slots, and 4 AAAs in the remaining too. I am on my second of the CHFC2 model, and the spring loaded mechanisms degrade over time so that I can only charge 1 AA or AAA in some of the slots. :( It looks like the CHFC2 is no longer sold. >:( NO MORE. It only charges 4 AA or 4 AAA at a shot. It appears from the pics and description that appears that the current model has done away with the old fallible mechanism that allowed up to 8 smaller batteries to charge at once.
