It leaves a residue that only builds up day after day if you only use shampoo, but this isn't a bad thing necessarily. Like a leave in conditioner. How do you remove the residue? Some hair conditioners will strip it out, but I just rotate between the Green (grease) and the Blue (water based). 3 days Green, 2 days Blue, repeat. The Blue will strip the oil out of your hands just putting it in your hair.
