The pieces are so tightly packed that the foam bits inside are super compacted. You really have to work this thing into shape, to break up all the big pieces. It’s been a miserable search. This bed is what i will be settling with based on the criteria of it being dark, some what durable- if my dog digs I don’t think he will make a hole, being the right size (48 inches) and having a second cover available for sale. I really want to love this bed very badly- it did puff out a bit more than when originally unwrapped but it is a bit lumpy, not enough stuffing I guess to fill it out all the way but even if I could deal with this I cannot deal with the loud crinkly noise that’s made whenever my dog steps on the bed, which is right next to my bed.
