As some other reviewers have mentioned, the horizontal piece on top of the iron, under the handle, does get hot...but as long as you know this, it is easy enough not to be a problem- if a 96 year-old can handle it...so can you! Review: Perfect for my needs - I bought this for my embroidery shop when my old iron finally gave up the ghost. It's perfect for my needs. I love the smooth bottom, the long cord, and the fact that it's nice and heavy so I don't have to press down so hard on things I'm pressing. The label on the top does get very hot, so you need to take care that you don't touch it when you pick the iron up, but thankfully this isn't hard to do.
