The thyme typically sold in stores for cooking is Thymus vulgaris, common thyme.This product is not. It is a mixture of other varieties of thyme. There are many varieties of thyme, all with different characteristics and flavors.When I first opened the bag, the smell was quite off-putting, and smelled nothing like "thyme" as I am used to. Thyme is one of my favorite spices to cook with, and this smells and looks nothing like common thyme. After a few days of being open, its aroma mellowed, but still smelled nothing like thyme, more like a cross between oregano and marjoram, but in my opinion not attractive or appetizing in the least. I would not cook with it.I contacted the seller, and got the following response: "There are varieties of thyme ... it depends on the batch that we receive. Since all of our thyme is harvested in wild and it is not cultivated by specific type of the plant, we receive both varieties and mixed them together."To be fair, the title of the product does say "wild thyme", but in the description nowhere does it specifically indicate what this means. What it means is that if you are expecting the same variety that you would buy in a grocery store for common, everyday cooking and recipes, this is not that product - it is a completely different look, smell and taste.I'll be throwing this in the garbage.
