The padding is nice and the kids I trained (both 14 yrs) LOVED it for squats. **Q: This would work with a 1 inch diameter bar?** A: That's what I bought it for and it works great. Most bars have a 1 inch grip, and the size variations are more for loading plates. **Q: Can this fit around a bar on a pilates reformer that is 4.25 inches in diameter?** A: I don't think so, or at least I wouldn't try.
