The railings were too far apart and the kittens easily walked through them and escaped out of their safe room. I used the box the gate came in as a barrier in front of the gate so the kittens could not get through. It was a perfect solution. The gate would probably work best for adult cats because of their size. The gate installed easily across the door opening and opened/closed with ease so the kittens did not escape.
