## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this a genuine wenger swiss army knife ?**
A: Yes. Wenger was one of 2 companies that made "Swiss Army" knives. Victorinox is on the German speaking side of Switzerland; their slogan was "the Original Swiss Army knife". Wenger is on the French speaking side; their slogan was "the Genuine Swiss Army Knife". A few years back Victorinox bought Wenger and eventually dropped the Wenger name and logo. Opinion only, but Wenger was more innovative and seemed to take more chances on knife tools and designs. The current Soldier knife is really just a slightly shorter version of Wenger's Ranger line. Something they started after their partnership with Buck knives.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great knife.
*by R***S on December 7, 2013*

This is just a very nice swiss army knife, its well made and have many of the tools needed to complete a lot of jobs. I love this knife.

### ⭐ does not compare to the Victornox
*by A***N on July 3, 2012*

I have always had swiss-champ victornox swiss army knives. I lost my last one and decided to buy this Wenger because seeing it on paper seemed even better than the Victornox, since they say that the scissors are self sharpening, the pliers are adjustable to fit a bigger size object, it has a hex nut wrench, the scissors and pliers don't have springs which should make it last longer, and a nice compass just in case I would ever get lost. You might be seeing it and it might seam too good to be true, and that is the way it is. This knife is poorly designed, it has independent tools that make it bigger and heavier, which could be incorporated into one. The scissors are self sharpening all right but because they are serrated which is very inconvenient even to cut paper. Having the other system instead of springs for the scissors and pliers makes it last longer but the whole thing moves up and down when you try to open it and close it making it less precise and some times harder to put away the tool, and in reality you can buy a replacement spring from victornox for less than $3 if it ever breaks, if you don't believe me go to their website and find out. The expanding pliers seam great on paper but in reality they are a pain to use they cant seam to stay put on one position when you open them. The pliers which you might expect to be rugged and sturdy are thin and more flimsy than the scissors, they bend under very little stress "normal use" and once they do they will never close right, ever again -remember they don't have springs! The wrench tool that they say it has I personally never used it so cant say if it works or not but I can tell you that it is too small to be practical which is why I never used it, I couldn't find in any project a small enough nut to use it on, so you are back to using the flimsy pliers. The measuring tool is not practical due to that it has the compass in the middle, and the compass even though it works is really small, I mean tiny. The whole measuring tool makes up about an extra centimeter of the width of the tool which makes it quite wide and not very practical to carry or work with it. It only has one blade which cuts very well and all, but like everything else is very thin compared to the Victornox, so I guess that you have to take really good care of it or it might break. If you've never had a swiss army knife I guess this would be a good tool for you, but if you want quality buy the Victornox Swiss-Champ which is the equivalent but better version of this one. If you previously owned a Victornox, buying this one will make you go crazy once you try to use it, the quality is definitely not the same, and it is more expensive.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cool tools, but too wide
*by C***Y on May 7, 2009*

I've had the Wenger Tool Chest Plus for over a year now. The blade is sharp, and the tools are well selected. This really is a useful knife. This knife compares competitively with the Victorinox Swiss Champ, almost tool for tool. However, the Tool Chest Plus has some tools which the Swiss Champ does not have, including a working compass, a wrench for nuts and bolts 8mm or smaller, and a nail file (instead of a small blade), and the magnifying glass has a real glass lense. The scissors and pliers are also different, and arguably better, since they use Wenger's springless system and the scissors are self sharpening--very cool, you should check the springless system out! Adding to the cool factor, the pliers have a slip joint, just like the pliers in your toolbox. Now for what I don't like about it. These are small things, but they detract from the perceived quality of the knife. The back springs aren't as strong, so the tools don't snap shut the same way as a Victorinox knife, I miss the pleasing *click*. Also, the Wenger knife doesn't have quite the same look of precision about it. The square edges aren't quite as square. Finally, this knife is wider than the Victorinox. That might be a plus or a minus, depending on whether bigger is better for its own sake. I found it a little too wide when doing some tough cutting, but for everyday stuff it's great.
