Prior to the trip I laid out an itinerary using this book, and the authors' great web site, NewEnglandWaterfalls.com as primary references and then added some falls to visit that they hadn`t listed, but I learned about from other sources on the internet. I found the directions listed in the book to be extremely accurate. This is the most important feature of any waterfall guide book to me. You can't hike to the fall, or photograph it if that is your purpose, if you can't find it. There were some occasions I used another internet source only because they happened to be approaching the falls from the same direction that I was traveling while the book used a town in the other direction as a starting point. There were a number of times I had problems trying to find the waterfall based on these other sources, but when I drove to the starting point listed in the book and followed their directions we found the fall just as described. When trying to find falls not listed in the book using directions from other sources on the net or other books we encountered a number of problems and finally gave up the search for some. I don't recall missing a one when using this book. I also found their trail information, my second most important criteria, to be mostly accurate. Our odometers agreed to the tenth in most cases, our pedometers were sometimes a bit off, but we didn't have any trouble whatsoever with trails to the falls when using the guide. A wealth of other basic information is included in the book that I'm sure would be useful to people beginning the great pastime of chasing down waterfalls. My wife and I are both retired and have been spending most of our time and our children's inheritance doing this for a few years so I didn't spend much time in the beginning of the book, but the information I skimmed over there was all good advice. I read a bad review where the writer complained about the lack of pictures in the book. This book is a tool for hikers-waterfall enthusiasts, it is not a coffee table book of beautiful professional color photos. There are some of those on the market too, buy one if that is what you want. Adequate and accurate, actually pretty darn good, pictures of most of the falls are available on their website referenced above. You can learn just about everything you need to know about any of the falls from that site except for directions on how to get there, for that you have to buy the book, and it is well worth it. We did find a few, but only a few, instances where the fall is listed as one the public could visit, but was now posted or the information was outdated for some other reason, but that is probably the case with every guide book ever printed. It is always disappointing to drive to a waterfall and not be able to visit it, but this will sometimes happen. We currently have about 50 guide books and with apologies to Gregory Plumb whose two books have also been invaluable to us, and are must-owns if visiting Tennessee or the Pacific Northwest, this is the best book in our collection. If you plan to visit waterfalls in New England buy this book. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Brings "scenic route" to a whole new level *by B***N on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 16, 2010* We took this book along for our trip up to Vermont and were more than thrilled with the results. We took scenic RTE 100 north through the state on our way up to Burlington and while it was a very nice road, we would've flew right by the best views we saw on our trip had it not been for this book. Four stops on our way up turned out to be four great places to get out for a walk and to see some of the nicest places I've come across in my 30 years in New England. We used it again on our second day to find Bingham Falls, which wound up being my favorite spot on our trip. The directions were easy to follow and we had no problem finding anything. Most of the chapters detailed falls that were within a mile of the road. Three of the four we visited that day were less than a quarter mile, but each had plenty of opportunity to explore further. There are plenty of hikes mapped out in the book that I can't wait to head out on. My only regret was that there wasn't enough time to thoroughly explore each location because there we so many others to check out. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Waterfall See Them All Reference Book! *by B***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 23, 2014* This is one very awesome and informative book. It lists all waterfalls in New England that are big enough to keep them running most if not all of the year round. The book shows you by state how many are in each state and the approximate area in which to find them. They then go on to give you a detailed listing of each of them and where to find them. Living in New Hampshire this is one of my bucket list items. I want to visit and photograph as many as I can and this book will be a wonderful reference to put in my back pack during the better months when I can get around.
