Unfortunately the instructions aren't all that clear, but it's not too difficult to figure out. You have to remove one of the attachments from your fanny pack (I used the male piece) and use it to replace one of the hooks on the extension (only one hook side can be removed, and the other is sewn. It takes a little work). Once you've replaced the removable hook with the piece from your fanny pack, slide the other hook into the empty loop (where the male piece was originally in my case), and tighten the loop around the hook. Then adjust it to fit you.
