Makes you realize how humans have been human for such a long time, and how their brief lives were so tragic for the simple things we take for granted, like clean water, hygiene, women who can travel and enjoy their honeymoon with their husband, and not having an entire life end when a woman married and became part of the husbands family and chattel goods! This is the darker side of the Jane Austen epilogues. If as a STEM grad I can get choked up reading this, you know it really hits home!!

If you think you know what the Victorian Era was all about, get this book and read the deeply personal thoughts from diaries and letter or REAL PEOPLE, not just the 1% at the top of the food chain.
