I got them to replace the stock laces on my Merrill Moab hiking shoes - which worked fine, but tend to untie themselves unpredictably. The cool wavy cross-section of these laces grip much better - they never, never untie themselves. I've looked for some good, heavy duty shoelaces to replace the better quality laces that come in my Merrell shoes and boots. For the most part, I've wasted money on expensive (although good looking) laces here on Amazon. Until I found these, that is! It's hard to explain, but they just feel good. They're sturdy, strong, stay tied, and seem like they'll last for a while. Plus, you get two pair for what some of the more popular brands cost. Oh yeah, and those more popular brands started fraying almost immediately on me. I've used these for a couple of months now and they still look new.
