There are a variety of settings in terms of strength and on the highest setting which I use as I want optimum results but it stings quite a bit like getting pinged with an elastic band. I guess no pain no gain!! I have been to an expensive salon and had radio frequency before on my chest pigmentation marks and fine lines and let me tell you the results were amazing but the feeling was the same as this little machine so I am hopeful. You don't see results straight away so don't expect anything overnight. I have been using this for 1 month and already I can see results as my sun damage has faded quite a bit on my chest! I use the red setting as I want to stimulate the collagen in the lower levels of my skin and only perserverence will pay off. The only negative thing to say is the charger is a bit tricky as I have to jiggle the device to get it to light up and charge properly but that may just be me not lining the prongs on the charger Base properly.
