Review: Keeps bevs hot, and doesnt leak... I cant find anything wrong with this thermos! - This is literally the best thermos I have ever owned! Temperature: I poured hot tea in it and was so busy I didnt drink it at school all day. So on my way home (10 hours later) I decided I didnt want to waste good tea and took a swig. OMG NOT A GOOD IDEA. It was still too hot for me! Even though I regretted that for a few seconds I was really surprised and impressed by this. Just for fun one time I tested it by pouring boiling water in it then 2 min later putting the cap on. I then checked the temp 18 hours later. Still hot. STILL HOT. Not warm. HOT. I do live in a warmer area so the coldest environmental temp was probably like 68-70F. With a vacuum seal that shouldnt matter but its worth mentioning. Cleaning: so easy! It comes apart and you can just wash and dry everything really well. Then reassemble in a few seconds. I even accidentally left milk and coffee go a little stinky in here once and after a regular wash there was no smell at all. That only happened one time but I was really happy about the lack of reminders of my mistake. Use: I have definitely locked this and just tossed it into my bag before. Its very secure and I have had 0 spills in 6 months of use. Also I like that when you tilt it to drink you dont get a Niagara Falls size gush of liquid onto your face. VIDEO: b/c I was confused about the parts so I thought others could use the help. UPDATE February 2015 (posted as a comment but moved here for visibility): Original video poster here! Glad some of you found my video helpful! I couldn't tell what the parts were and I thought this thermos was awesome and deserved a review so thats why I made it. Anyhow, I have had this same thermos for 1.5 years now and its still going strong. Ive taken it on lots of plane trips, shoved it in various luggages/bins to travel, really abused it as far as a thermos goes. But thats why I bought it! Still keeps my drinks unfailingly hot/cold, doesn't leak, looks great, and is still basically awesome. I even bought a couple more thermoses for family members and they are having the same success. Its worth the up front investment for this one. It does seem like a lot when you have $5-10 choices at supermarkets. I bought a bottle brush to clean it (OXO good grips bottle brush from supermarket) and it works perfectly. I don't take the whole thing apart every time- just give the parts a soapy soak/wash every few times then air dry and reassemble. 1/2023: still going strong. Use weekly or so now, I don’t think this will ever die?
Review: BEST commuter cup - I work in a group home with adults with intellectual disabilities. They are delightful people, but one has a passion for stealing beverages. After losing my Coke (again), I decided to see if a locking commuter cup exists and this looked like it might just work. In order to take a drink, you must slide the lock over and then press the lever. Let’s just hope she doesn’t discover that the top unscrews. I've owned many commuter cups that promised to be leak proof. This is the first one that delivers. I can make my tea at home and carry it to work and not spill a drop. When I first received the cup, I thought I must have been sent the wrong size. There was no way this held 16 ounces. However, I measured it, and it does, indeed, hold 16 ounces. This is perfect for the 2 cups of tea that I make in the morning and for my 12 ounce cans of Coke that I drink when the tea is gone. (No coffee. Ever. But at least I don’t get that nasty coffee smell in the gasket.) Cold drinks stay cold for hours. This is great, because it can take me 4 to 6 hours to finish off my morning tea. I was a bit reluctant to try soda in this, because I have memories of my mom putting Coke in my Thermos back in the early 1970s and finding that the rubber stopper had exploded into tiny bits of sawdust or cork or whatever was inside the stopper when I opened it at lunchtime. I searched the comments here and found that others have successfully put soda in their cups with no mention of anything bad happening, so I was encouraged to try it. I am happy to report that I had no issues with a can of Coke in this cup. If I leave the cup sealed long enough between sips, I’ll get a soft “fft!” just like I do when I open a bottle of Coke after it has been sitting a while between sips. Thus, not only is my Coke kept cold longer in this cup, it retains the fizz longer. That makes this better than a Coke bottle. For the sake of a thorough review, I decided to make some hot tea near the end of a work shift. I put a tea bag and the boiling water into the cup and left the lid off for the 5 minutes it took to steep the tea. Then I put the lid on and waited another 30 minutes before I dared to test the tea. It was still hot, a little too hot to drink. I like my hot beverages hot, but this was too much. 45 minutes later. Still too hot. 1 hour. Too hot. 2 hours. Getting there, but it's bedtime. Too late to drink tea, unless I want to keep getting up all night. I awaken and in a bit I remember my tea. I test it, a full 11 hours after I have made it. It’s still warm. A little cooler than perfection, but drinkable. If there’s a downside to this cup, it’s that my small tea strainer is too large for the mouth of the cup. I have to strain my loose leaf tea into something else and then pour it into the cup. Otherwise, I get tea all over the table. I searched on desertcart for a strainer that’s small enough, and I don’t think one exists. Tl;dr: Leakproof. Keeps beverages hot or cold for hours. It delivers what it promises.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Over time, does the mug retain flavors or smells? I only get 3-4 months of daily coffee use out of my mugs before they start retaining flavors/smells.**
A: I left coffee in my mug for several weeks (misplaced the mug) and the smell inside was horrible, even after going through hot water washes/soaking/dishwasher. But I got it brand new again, here’s how: OxyClean is amazing for removing coffee and tea stains, and all smells, from stainless, mugs, whatever. It was great on the hard plastic parts as well. The silicone circular gasket and plug on the too inside of the lid were what stunk the worst, and nothing helped, even prolonged soaks and scrubbing in OxyClean. But they are SILICONE, and the internet taught me that the best way to get smells out of silicone is by baking it (thanks, Instapot owners!) I placed the silicone pieces on a small baking sheet in my oven at 350 degrees F, and baked for about 30 minutes. The smell baked right out of them; it was amazing!

**Q: Are the plastic components on the mug BPA-free?**
A: it is BPA free plastic and 18/8 stainless steel, one of the best stainless steel you can get in the market, and it's very safe to use hot or cold, shouldn't have that problem.check out their web site:https://www.zojirushi.com/app/product/smsa

**Q: Does the paint get scratched easily or will it hold up under use? Thanks in advance for your info!**
A: I have the black one. I love it, but the paint has scratched off in a few spots. I’m careful with it, but I do carry it in my messenger bag. I’m extremely careful with what I put next to it, so I have to conclude the places without paint are due to rubbing against fabric.

**Q: Coated vs slicksteel? Which one is considered better? Wish they only had one style!**
A: Stainless steel is safer. For the 20oz model that has the SlickSteel interior (no non-stick coating inside), the Zojirushi SM-SHE60BZ is the model you are looking for. They come in two colors - black and orange.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ BEST commuter cup

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My favorite possession!!! Seriously I take it everywhere I go. If you see someone carrying one, that's me. Come say hello!
*by J***3 on December 7, 2015*

Ok so clearly I love this thing, and I have bought several as gifts. I will say that there are 2 minor annoyances. They are very minor. I would still buy this mug again and again. First, the inner walls discolor very easily. I don't drink coffee, I drink tea. Lots and lots of herbal tea. This is because coffee is disgusting and tastes like burnt death. Why else would so many people feel the need to add milk and sugar and flavor squirts? Nobody drinks black coffee anymore, unless they are in a diner trying to write a novel or look depressed. Maybe you're upset because your coffee tastes awful? Anyhow, I purposefully bought this exact model of Zojirushi mug due to the lack of non-stick coating. Most of their products are coated, which they say is for ease of cleaning. Unfortunately that coating gives you cancer, and I just want hot tea. I have no idea what the discoloration says about the purity or impurity or overall quality of my mug's steel interior. I just know that scrubbing does not keep it totally clean. Maybe this is because I keep my tea in there for 6 or 8 hours at a time. After all, it stays scalding hot - just the way I like it - so I am only able to take tiny sips all day long. Perhaps this time steeps the tea and stains the interior. Otherwise the thing looks perfect and it works as well today as it did when I first bought it over a year ago. This review is for one I bought for a friend, so I've owned mine longer than the date would suggest. The one other teeny tiny issue is that mine leaks from time to time if I don't assemble it perfectly OR if I overfill it. I am greedy and like to get as much liquid in there as humanly possible. So usually it is because I have overfilled. Basically I mention this because if you don't overfill and if you assemble carefully (which is easy) you will be fine. But if you are someone who likes to do a sloppy fast assembly and not think about a fill line (the interior actually has a raised bump that you need to stay below) then perhaps you will not love this mug like I do. If you want pure stainless (it stains - branding crisis!) and a mug that will keep your liquid incredibly hot or cold for at least 6 hours, then you should buy this one. By the way, when I say 6 hours, I mean you will barely have a temperature change in that time. It usually takes me 8 hours to go from scalding hot to easily drinkable - which still slightly burns my throat, but just barely. PRO TIP 1: When I make my tea, I add about 1/2" of room temp water to the mug of boiling water. That makes it so I can easily sip it right away, and it stays perfect for about 3-5 hours instead of 6-8 hours. PRO TIP 2: When I am about to plop my tea bag in there, I remove the paper tag from the string, so it doesn't dissolve into my delicious hot beverage. P.S. I forgot about one other minorly annoying quirk. When you pop the lid open, which is fun because it really springs open, the rubber piece that keeps your liquid perfectly sealed will ALWAYS have beads of your drink on there. I just kinda ignore it or lick it off, depending on my mood. If you drink coffee, which would be such a shame, it might fling a tiny micro bead of brown water into the air. I don't love that it does this, but if it didn't my tea would not stay hot and would probably spill out when I lay my mug down. So I don't let it bother me. Then again, I don't have the wild mood swings of caffeine raging through my veins, so it's hard to know how this might impact someone else.
