I've seen black powder rifles with larger nipples, but those are usually on much larger calibers, 50, 53, and 74, etc. If the rifle was not cleaned after firing and the nipple is corroded into the barrel, you may not be able to remove it without a torch and penetrating oil. **Q: will this nipple wrench work on a traditions, Vortex Magnum 50 cal. musket nipple?** A: It should. Just keep downward pressure on it while you turn it or it will round on you! **Q: does the handle slide out?** A: no **Q: Will this work on a Traditions Buckstalker xl?** A: I would say no. I bought it for my Pedersoli SxS and it was too small. My gun takes #11 caps. If you can measure the width of the flats on the nipple that might give you an indication as to whether the size is right or not. Your gun might have a different nipple size than mine though. I ended up buying a little ratchet thing with the nibs that are the three common sizes for all BP guns. I think it was around $30 for the set. You can find them on Amazon. The nipples had been on for years and 2 of them wouldn't come out. I actually broke 2 nipple wrenches trying to get them out before I got this one. It is a very snug fit on that type of revolver and won't spin completely around but, I got enough of a bite to break them loose which is all I needed.
