After baking, it can be sanded, drilled, carved and painted with water-based acrylic paints. This oven bake clay will not dry out, so you can take your time crafting and not have to rush to finish your projects like you do with air dry clay. STORAGE INFORMATION: Our products contain a date code that indicates the date of production, but not “sell by date”. Oven-bake clays, when stored correctly in a cool, dry place, below 77°F and out of direct sunlight, have an expected shelf life of a few years. • Shelf life can be impacted by environmental conditions, including heat and humidity, during shipping and storage. We store the clay at Polyform in a cool and dry environment. • Improper storage may affect the quality of the clay. One aspect of oven-bake clays is that they react to very warm temperatures. • Proper polymer clay storage is essential to freshness. The clay should be stored in a clay compatible container in a very cool, dry place, unexposed to the direct rays of the sun. We recommend containers or bags made out of polypropylene (PP) plastic. Hint: Look for the recycling symbol #5 on the bottom of the container. • DO NOT store in a hot environment above 77°F. • DO NOT store in direct sunlight. • DO NOT store inside a car. Review: Holy Moly It’s Super Good - I love that the clay from the minute I opened the box, was so malleable. I peeled off two layers to condition it, and I put some through my pasta maker. So when I opened the package of clay, it was immediately apparent to my hands that it was fresh-I saw that even the 4 layers of the brick was bending already!!!!! What a joyful experience!!! I had to stop after the first roll through to take a picture of this happy artistic moment and share my amazing discovery of Sculpey Original. I bought the 1.75 lb. box, hoping it would be a good purchase and what I needed. It passed all my expectations and more. **Q: How long must it bake?  I need an activity for a kids' birthday party.  Can it be baked and completed by the end of the party?**
A: Bake at 275 for about 15-20 minutes.  It is a good craft idea for children (with adult supervision because of the baking part) roll, shape, bake, cool, paint.  I hope this helps.  have fun!

**Q: Can it be dyed? Or painted before baking?**
A: Unbaked clay can absolutely be tinted, and by a wide variety of products, all of which will bake permanently into the clay, becoming part of it. Alcohol inks made by Adirondack or Jacquard (or felt tip art pens based in alcohol ink), oil paint, pigment powders, acrylic paints... There's a website called The Blue Bottle Tree, which has a wealth of information on all things related to polymer clay.

**Q: I want to make a statue for my garden.  After it is baked, is it waterproof or do I need a special varnish to waterproof it?**
A: Its water resistant but if you're going to keep something outside you should waterproof it. Polyurethane might work but talk to someone at Home Depot or Loewws or other hardware store who could help you select the best product for your needs.

**Q: If you make a cup or mug is it safe to drink from?**
A: While Sculpey says non-toxic on the box, it is not for eating or drinking from. Even after baking it is not hard like ceramic or porcelain and you should never drink from any clay material that cannot receive a fired glaze such as those used in stoneware and porcelain china as chemicals can be released with heat or extended exposure to moisture. There is also a caution on the box that it should not be used for food or drink.

I love that the clay from the minute I opened the box, was so malleable. I peeled off two layers to condition it, and I put some through my pasta maker. The clay pretty much all smoothed together and conditioning it was a pleasure, unlike many other clays who crumble and you need a long time to get it workable. I started working with Sculpey in the 80’s and I have most of it still left over. I got it working but it was so old, it took hours. So when I opened the package of clay, it was immediately apparent to my hands that it was fresh-I saw that even the 4 layers of the brick was bending already!!!!! What a joyful experience!!! I had to stop after the first roll through to take a picture of this happy artistic moment and share my amazing discovery of Sculpey Original. I bought the 1.75 lb. box, hoping it would be a good purchase and what I needed. It passed all my expectations and more. Great for beginners to use without worrying about wasting more expensive and higher quality materials. That being said, this stuff is still very good quality. It's smooth, and easy to work with. I do advise either working in a cool room, or on top of a ceramic surface to help the clay stay cool. As your hands warm it, it becomes much softer and potentially harder to work with, depending on what you're doing. Of course, this could also be a benefit if you're looking for a softer clay :) A couple quick notes: 1.) I bake my pieces at 230°F for an hour instead of at 275­°F like the box says. I find that baking at a lower temperature for a longer period, offers a harder end result once completely cooled. 2.) Any thin pieces will be a bit flexible. Things like bracelet cuffs or rings or anything else thin should probably use some internal support. Perhaps wire. This isn't a problem of the product so much as it's just a limitation of the material. Other brands are a bit more sturdy, but overall thin pieces will all have this side effect.
