They are granite. The key is to get a variable-speed grinder, buy a 4" velcro pad for it first. Then get these diamond pads and use in graduating succession. Meaning, 800 grit, then 1000, ...and finer. Advice: As a general rule, keep the RPMs at 2000 or the recommended 2200 as a max. Exception: if you have scratches or divots in the stone, go with an 800 or 1000 grit pad set and both a 4000 RPM and and a little edge-digging, directional erasing action (versus full pad contact) and aggressively but conservatively get those imperfections smooth. You can work them flush with the surface gradually with finer grit pads and graduating radial fractals. When finishing the surface, don't "edge grind". Use the full pad face. Keep the RPMs at or under 2200 or you will get cloudy, circular streaks where the yellow diamond coating of the pad combines with the slurry and the heat infuses it with the stone. This creates frustrating feathery sweeps down into the stone that are noticeable if the stone is dark colored. Slow down your pace and use plenty of water. You don't need a water-fed grinder device though. Just an electric, variable-speed grinder tool and a spray bottle for a small residential counter top. Keep the grinding surface wet such that the grinder (with a little downward pressure) doesn't grab, dart, catch, or divert wildy. Then you know you're too dry. It should always swim and skate. Be patient and wipe away the milky slurry after each minute of working an area so that the chalky slurry doesn't get deposited into the surface (especially for dark or black stone!). Remember, "it takes what is takes". If you need more pads because they are worked down to being black most of the way, order them. Keep going with proper grinding pads. As the saying goes, "There is nothing that has been done to the surface of your stone counter tops that can't be undone." Equation: Variable speed grinder, water, lots of grinding pads, project towels for wiping, time. Oh yeah, and get MB20 to finish. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I use this without the machine and worked perfectly for my application. *by P***A on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 9, 2015* I've already bought 2 sets and some grit wear down more than the other grit. So, It's so nice to be able to buy single grit pad, rather than entire set.I pour concrete counter top and used diamond polishing pads from low grit to high and my counter top is very smooth. However I've made a mistake of putting liquid sealer on top of it. The sealer provide wet look and also protect it from concrete from stain like cooking oil, etc. But after using a few months, I found that putting sealer over the concrete surface, it shows scratches on counter tops. Also, if water stay on counter top, moisture will soften the area and sealer change its color to milky white. Once this happened, I really have to be careful until it dry again.So, I decide to remove the sealer. this pads are for electric polishing tool, but I know it will make great mess in the kitchen. So, I use this pad and remove sealer by hand. It didn't take long to remove sealer on the counter top and now, I have smooth concrete counter top without any sealer on. I am now using food grade wax to protect the counter top and I am very happy with the result.This pad is much thicker than the 'the set' that I ordered in the past. If I need more pads in the future, I would order this individual pads again. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Works - but a little more pricy and less agressive than another brand i purchase *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 5, 2018* Pick the 13 piece set and used it to level out and polish a 13" x 11" slice of petrified rock. First time in doing this.The 50 and 100 grits did not seem to be effective in removing the scratches from the surface. this is after an hour with a variable speed grinder/polisher. After going through all the levels, the surface did have a nice gleen to it but still had the fine scratches. I purchase another brand of pad for the 50 and also a 30 grit. These were more effective in removing the fine scratches on the surface. After the initial removing the scratches, the following level of grits gradually brought out the shine to the surface.
