Shade darkness is easily set with your left had, and the knob is on the outside. The viewing area is small compared to the full face or the new panoramic style, but more than adequate. The shade control also can lock the shade to clear for grinding. Very slick, although I probably won’t use it for grinding. I’ve already used it to TIG weld a project I was working on, and did some 308 SS stick welds with it on another project. The only complaint I had was the button battery used to power the shade was dead when it arrived. When I hit the shade test button nothing happened. I figured I would have to send the helmet back, but when I took the cover off the battery I found it incorrectly installed. The battery had draining completely do to this mistake, but I already had a spare supplied with my purchase.
