How bold is this tip compared to the Medium?** A: I don't think you would want to use the broad nib for calligraphy. You want a pen with a stub or italic nib and I would recommend at least 1.9mm. TWSBI has a 1.1mm stub, which is ok for calligraphy. I would consider Pilot Parallel or Kaweco's calligraphy set, as you can try several nib sizes without breaking the bank, or a Speedball dip pen with a variety of nibs which can be bought cheaply. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great pen *by S***C on April 30, 2026* I like fountain pens. The nib is smooth right out of the box. I have two of these: medium and fine nibs. I love them both. I've tried several pens over the years nothing comes to the TWSBI Diamond 580 experience for me. The TWSBI Eco and the Pilot Metropolitan are in second and third place for everyday carry.
