They were made of stretch material and hugged the foot perfectly -- not too tight, not too loose.Unfortunately the design has been changed so there is no more stretch. The sandals are cut way too wide and are simply not the same product. ### ⭐⭐⭐ Different sizing on current sandals and comfort issue *by W***Y on July 15, 2015* Summer 2015: Normally a 6.5 (36.5) I ordered two pairs of these sandals in size 7, the size marked on all 5 pairs that I've had for a number of years. I have a narrow foot and the older sandals in this style fit snugly, after much wear. The new ones (bought to replace pairs in which a thong finally pulled away from the sole) are both too long and too wide, so I've returned them.Update a year later: Desperate to have replacements, I ordered three pairs in size 6, and they fit properly. BUT: (perhaps after complaints of wide elastic?) the manufacturer has stitched a band of leather/synthetic material under the forward half of the elastic* that prevents the front half from stretching. While the fit is ok, the added material, unlike the soft elastic, is stiff and its edges rub the foot. The new version is not nearly as comfortable as teethe old were, and I'm likely to return the unworn pairs. *Look closely at the photo and you will see a row of stitching running across the elastic band midway between its front and back. ### ⭐⭐⭐ I prefer the old version - the strap is too loose and the old Calisto sole was much better *by D***E on July 3, 2013* I have bought 10 pairs of these sandals over the years because they're so comfortable. I have had to replace two pairs, the black and tan ones, several times because I wear those colors the most. These new sandals are bigger than all of the previous ones -- the stretch strap that goes across the foot always fit great and lightly hugged my feet but now there's a gap and the sandals don't stay on as well. I'm still keeping them but I really wish they would make them like they first made them. The soles on these sandals wear out and you end up with rips in the spots where your feet apply the most pressure. When they were made under the name Calisto, the soles were much better and the sandals that I still have with those soles are still in good shape although maybe a bit thinner from the many years of wear. Of importance is that I wear a size larger in this shoe than in any other shoe I've ever purchased. It's always been that way and it's very odd that they don't size them as every other shoe company does.
