I commute on my road bike in Denver through most the year, and I'm an aggressive rider that often rides in the flow of traffic. Accordingly, I wanted something that was as bright as a car or motorcycle headlight that could be seen from a long way out. On that front, this light really delivered. It was the brightest tail light I have ever owned, it had great diffuse 180 degrees of visibility. The battery was awesome (albeit a bit of overkill), and the wet weather protection absolutely unmatched. The only real complaint I had about the light itself was that the lowest setting was a bit bright for use in a pace line (a lower setting would have been appreciated by those behind me).Unfortunately, this light failed where most others do--the mounting system was awful. I didn't like the magnetic system to begin with, as I didn't like having the magnet permanently zip tied to the seat post of my road bike. My solution to that problem was to buy a giant bag of zip ties and cut it off when I didn't need the light. For a $120 dollar light, there really should be a better solution. I also felt nervous throwing the light (and it's super-powerful magnet) into my backpack with my laptop and other electronics.In any case, a couple of weeks ago, I got home from my evening commute an realized the light was no longer attached to the magnetic mount. I have no idea where the light popped off the magnetic mount--probably in heavy traffic as I didn't hear it hit the ground. Aside from the fact that I am not out $120, I don't know how long I was riding in the dark without my primary light. Not exactly confidence inspiring to be looking down all the time to make sure your light is still there. And yes, I did have the light mounted vertically on my seat post.I liked the functionality of the light so much, I've toyed with the possibility of getting another and making a proper mount for it with some go-pro hardware and some epoxy. The Orfos Red Flare is one of those products that will wow you with being exactly as described.This tail light is ingenious. It delivers on the output and makes you wonder why you suffered with lesser products for so long. If you're commuting at night, you've probably got thousands invested in your bike, clothing lighting, etc. Not spending a cool hundred for a rear light that makes you as visible as a car from both the rear and side is the definition of insanity. It's not directional, so it's not as attention getting in the day as some of the hi power LED flashers (Bontrager Flare R for example) but it is great for evening/night use. The mounting system pretty much depends on being mounted vertically instead of horizontally for the strongest mount attachment of the light. A different mount system would allow more mounting options (it was hard finding a good mount setup for the Catrike Road, ending up with me getting a T-Post mount to put it on so it would be vertical as we had it bounce off when horizontal once).The button for power/settings takes a little getting used to.
