There's a very, very limited number of chemicals in this set, and it looks like they are using litmus solution and litmus powder for pH experiments (looking at the picture under zoom). Their website doesn't list the contents exactly for this version, but does for the 2010 edition. Bromothymol blue was not in the 2010 kit and I doubt they added it to this one. (even the 2010 C3000 did not have bromothymol blue in it). **Q: what is the list of materials not supplied?** A: Got this as a gift for my grandson and it basically only includes the mixing containers and the book with all the recipes to make things. Most of the items you need to make them are normally in your cubboard or refrigerator. **Q: I bought this in the U.S. recently as a present for someone out of the country, can i check it in my flight when i fly next week?** A: In your checked luggage should be no problem. It doesn't contain flammable chemicals. The greater risk is test-tube breakage due to bag handlers. **Q: Does this kit come with all of the equipment? And, is the equipment durable?** A: I bought this kit as a Christmas gift for my son and it comes with a book of different experiments you can perform. It does come with about 80% of the needed ingredients and items for most of the experiments, so there are a few things you'll have to acquire on your own. As for durability, I wouldn't rate it very high. His safety goggles broke after the second use(safety goggles are a MUST because almost all of the chemicals can cause severe irritation to the eyes skin and other unpleasant things)and the bottles and beakers crack very easily. All in all, my son loves it though so I consider it a good buy. There are a lot more different types of chemicals and experiments, and many of the experiments to require you have things in your house but most of them truly are things you already have in your house. That said, the experiment instructions leave a lot to be desired. I am an adult with advanced degrees and I had trouble following some of them. You will likely need to help your child through some parts of this.
