Photographic apparatuses can be moved micrometrically in two axes. Because the camera moves inside the circular arc, object distance and image window are hardly altered. A panorama at the base of the tripod head serves to align the camera / recording instrument to the object. After you get that out of the way, I think you will find it's the best tripod head you can get. The ease and flexibility of adjustments are just amazing, and allow you to fine tune a shot like nothing else I have used. All of the fiddling with a ball head to get the best shot then just deciding to crop is something that you will not miss, I promise. I have seen reviews that gripe about the quick release, and it is a bit different, but it is not something that should keep you from purchasing. The release can also be adjusted for other size/spec plates if you read the instructions. You must keep tension on the jaws to allow turning of the adjustment wheel.After that it is tight and secure even with a heavy, unbalanced setup. I run mine with a Cognysis long rail and it can attach at the end of the rail and still keep it steady even when the center of gravity shifts.
