Review: Better Than Perfect - My artistic intentions have always been sadly restricted by a lack of tools and talent. The free Krita digital art software and £35 for this Wacom tablet have resolved the former and even make up for some of the latter. Seriously, while creating my first digital 'painting' following Bob Ross's "Mystic Mountain" episode (yes, the illustration is my first attempt) I spent more time learning which brushes and settings were most appropriate in Krita than setting-up the graphics tablet. Apart from adjusting the pressure-sensitivity to find what was most comfortable for me and changing my mind about what I wanted the pen-buttons to do the tablet itself was a simple matter of plugging it in. As a caveat - it's just as well that everything was so simple as there is no printed or PDF manual and the only help - from the Wacom website - is not at all clear. This is, of course, an older piece of hardware and their cheapest but I would still have liked something easier to understand. It remains true, however, that the biggest obstacle to understanding the hardware that I had was in understanding how little there was to understand - it really is very, very, simple to install and operate and works extremely well. Alas, I think I still lack the talent to benefit from it fully but it has already been well worth the money and I'm very happy with this device.
Review: can recommend - I bought the Wacom One Pen Tablet twice, one for my daughter and one for my niece (both 15yo) and they are both thrilled with it! It’s easy to set up, light, fast, quick for drawing and simple to start using. A great choice for teenagers just discovering digital art and even suitable for professionals since Wacom is a trusted, reliable brand. Excellent value for money I highly recommend it!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Does the tablet work with Linux?**
A: Yes it does :). It works perfectly for me in Krita and Blender.
You may need to run this every time you plug it in. I need to run this on Manjaro, but not on ubuntu.
sudo modprobe wacom

I have a script I run every time I plug my tablet in. Here's what's in it.

# Flip it 180 degrees so we can use it upside down.
xsetwacom --set "Wacom One by Wacom M Pen stylus" Rotate half

# The default mode is for the cursor to jump to the location where the pen is on the tablet.
# I sometimes prefer relative mode, because it's more natural and I can just move the cursor bit by bit.
#xsetwacom --set "Wacom One by Wacom M Pen stylus" Mode relative

# Other artists use absolute mode, so I guess I will too.
# Plus I can map it to a monitor and that way I won't ever lose my cursor.
xsetwacom --set "Wacom One by Wacom M Pen stylus" Mode absolute
xsetwacom --set "Wacom One by Wacom M Pen stylus" MapToOutput HDMI-A-0

**Q: Is this compatible with Linux?**
A: Hi, thanks for reaching out.
Wacom does not offer a Linux driver directly, but there is a Linux driver available for most Wacom devices at the Linux Wacom Project on Github.
Many Linux distributions come with the driver pre-installed, so first try attaching your device to your Linux machine to see if it works. If it doesn’t, visit the Github repository to download drivers and get more information.
I hope this helps!

Kindest Regards,
David P.

**Q: Will i be able to use this to mark work my students email me. they use photos, pdf's, wordpad and word. can i use it for all these programmes?**
A: First thing to note is that to make the tablet work you will need to install its drivers. If your computer is supplied by your school/college you may need to check with your IT people that you can install them before you buy the tablet. If you are using Windows 10 then the tablet fully supports the inking features built into this version of Windows. This will enable you to directly use the pen on their work supplied as photos and the latest word files (.docx). You will need to open the files in a specific program like Word or Paint, it won't work directly in your email client. Wordpad files can be converted to the latest type of word file and can then be written on, although I would export the marked version to an image or pdf for return to the student because I am not sure Wordpad would open files marked in this way. As for pdf I am not aware of a version of a pdf editor that supports inking, however you could save the pdfs as an image file and then mark in the same way as a photo.
If you are using a Mac or Linux based PC then I have no experience of those operating systems so my comments probvbably won't apply, sorry.

**Q: Does this include the software like other Wacom drawing tablets?**
A: The One by Wacom offers free trial offers for Collaboard, Explain Everything, Kami, Limnu and Pear Deck (educational/collaborative apps and websites). If you have a Chromebook, you are also offered a free trial of Clip Studio Paint PRO which is a digital art software.
The Clip Studio offer is only valid for ChromeOS.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great little tablet - worth the money. Drivers the weak point
*by D***H on 16 January 2024*

I wanted a little tablet for photo editing on my Mac. Neither mice not trackpads are great for pixel-perfect image manipulation. I thought I'd try the small One and return it if I needed something bigger. Actually the size is a real bonus - it's large enough for very accurate pen control, but small enough that you're not waving your arm around like an orchestra conductor. I thought I was going to want a larger tablet than this, but actually the size is perfect. I've used many tablets over the years and use huge ones at work daily. For the low price this doesn't seem to have any drawbacks compared to the larger ones, for anybody who isn't a professional graphic designer. My only negative comments are: there's no upright pen holder, the device uses Micro USB rather than USB-C, and the drivers took a bit of installing, with two reboots before everything was happy. Also, the Wacom Mac drivers require permanent keyboard logging access, which I presume is so that they can monitor modifier keys when the app isn't in the foreground - but actually I don't want any app having full keyboard access for security reasons, so there should absolutely be an option for the drivers to work without full keyboard access for those who care about security rather than unwanted functionality.
