Review: Must have for radio enthusiasts - This phone is fantastic. As a ham radio operator it is part of my EDC. It is heavy, but looks like it will survive a hurricane. I use it for Zello, EchoLink, Droid Star, and Tango Tango. Highly recommend. The battery will last days depending on use. Extremely durable.

Not a good option for DVSwitch. - I purchased one of these exclusively to use for Android ham radio applications such as DVSwitch and DroidStar, with a specific intent of getting a dedicated PTT button. When it arrived it was in like new condition, and I happily booted it only to see a splash screen from the carrier Southern Linc, which I had never heard of. A Google search shows their primary customer base is first responders and government agencies. This proved to be problematic. This carrier locks down - in hardware - the PTT switch so that it does not appear in the Settings -> Programmable Keys menu. No attempt to map the key with ButtonMapper and use the resultant keycode was successful. This is perfectly understandable if you are providing phones to Southern Linc's customer base, where you want things tightly locked down. But that it unusable for DVSwitch and any other apps you might like to trigger with the PTT button. I spent a few hours going down the Google rabbit hole, looking for a solution, trying all the suggestions I could find and realized the value of my time was outstripping what I paid for the phone. So it has gone back to desertcart. I've found an equivalent retired AT&T unit that I'll try, and hopefully I'll get better results.

**Q: Does this hook up to verizion**
A: If it's unlocked it will hook up to any carrier.

**Q: Does this have dual sim that u can use at the same time**
A: Most of these are AT&T locked (despite being listed as unlocked). This is in the device factory software, and the seller probably did a factory reset. As such, AT&T disables one SIM. Interestingly it is usually SIM1 that is disabled. Insert a valid AT&T SIM into slot 2 during activation. Run all available software updates (build 10.34.03). Maintain an active prepaid account on AT&T for 120 days, then use the onboard "Device Unlock" app.

After device unlock and on most up to date Android, both SIMs will work on all GSM networks.

Unless you get a rare global version then SIM1 works only on global frequencies and SIM2 works on North American (Canada, USA, Mexico).

**Q: Does it work in Colombia ?**
A: Sonim XP8800 will work anywhere in the world where there is Wi-Fi signals.

**Q: does it have wireless charging ?**
A: Sonim has a 5W direct contact charging dock. This is NOT wireless. It uses the two contacts on the back below the battery door. Also the charging dock is only 5W. The USB-C port is QC 4.0 compatible (20W).

The charging dock uses a MICRO-USB connection and costs $60.

A replacement port cover costs $13.

And why worry about charging? This this has a 2 day battery under hard use. Use it like a phone (no gaming, no video streaming) and get 4-5.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Old XP8800 Lasted 4 Years, Needed Replacement, This Worked Out Just Perfect

Arrived exactly as described and on time. Only noticeable damage was a small scratch on the battery. otherwise an absolutely clean unit. Came with a charger and cable that was both unexpected and a nice surprised. Saved me well over $1,000 by not having to buy a state-of-the-art phone when this model has been perfect for me for four years. My only complaint is that the price displayed alternated between $165 and $134 as I periodically refreshed my browser throughout the day; with 'low stock / hurry / order now' quantities varying at random. Clearly designed to incentivize purchasing however whenever I clicked when the item was offered at $134 the purchase page always reverted to $165; which is both deceitful and false-advertising. I was never able to complete the purchase at the $134 offering. Besides that, no regrets.
