Then let go of the power temperature button and it beeps to let you know it has read your temperature. It takes about 1 second from the time you touch it to your forehead to when it tells your temperature. That's fast! Your tempurature is displayed in big, easy to read numbers on the front screen. It also has an attachment that allows you to check temperature in your ear, but we don't use that. It has a Mode button for when you want to check the room temperature. It can also check the temperature of a baby bottle, etc., but that's not something we'll use. Just having an accurate, easy to use thermometer is all we want! Our old digital thermometer was not accurate, reading all kinds of low temperatures in the low 97s, so I bought this one hoping for more accuracy and was not disappointed. Great thermometer! Super easy: you just hold the flat top part against your forehead, press and hold the front temperature button and then move the thermometer across your forehead to your temple. Then let go of the power temperature button and it beeps to let you know it has read your temperature. It takes about 1 second from the time you touch it to your forehead to when it tells your temperature. That's fast! Your tempurature is displayed in big, easy to read numbers on the front screen. It also has an attachment that allows you to check temperature in your ear, but we don't use that. It has a Mode button for when you want to check the room temperature. It can also check the temperature of a baby bottle, etc., but that's not something we'll use. Just having an accurate, easy to use thermometer is all we want! Now our temperature readings are consistent and range from 98.2 -98.7 like they are supposed to be. We are now confident it will detect a low grade fever, unlike our old thermometer.
