Review: Great Kukri knife machete, well worth the money. - Wanted a Cold Steel kukri machete for awhile, after I already got the CS Magnum Kukri a few years ago, but wanted a shorter version. This one filled the bill: sharp, great handling, and cheap when I bought it for $17.84. I didn't hesitate, snapped it up. You shouldn't either, buy one! UPDATE: So, I have had this a few months, and wanted to give additional perspective. Great balance in the hand, extremely fast and agile. Much smoother to use than my original CS Magnum Kukri, not so heavy or fatiguing, and actually cut brush and foliage better in my hands. The guard against hand creep is a great safety feature, first started with the CS Royal Kukri machete. Overall, it is nice and sturdy, not too much flex at all. It chops it up with the best of them. I got this thing at an insane price on desertcart for less than $18, an absolute bargain! It comes sharp, but I am a sharpening *demon and hit it up again. Now, it is deadly sharp, so bring on those zombies! 2nd UPDATE: I love this Kukri more and more, use it for home defense and it is deadly for that purpose. It is sharp as hell, and even after yard chores around the house, keeps its edge. I let my yard man use it to trim back bushes, and he didn't want to give it back, and then wanted to know where could get one. Just as I predicted, it would go up in price, it is now almost $30 plus shipping, while I got it for less than $18.00 plus free shipping. For those few complaining about the grip or edge, well it is your job to maintain it, so sharpen it and put grip tape, leather wrap, or ranger bands on it. It is a devastating chopper for bushing weed and saplings, and a superb home defense weapon, and again I just love mine.
Review: The Royal Kukri machete's little brother. - I have the Royal Kukri machete and love it. It's heavy enough to cleave larger limbs like that of longer machetes, but the curve allows you to do so in a shorter package. However, if you want something shorter and lighter, as the Royal Kukri machete is still a heavy beast, the Kukri Plus machete is the way to go. Before I go any further, I am aware that this is not a "real" kukri. It doesn't have a thick spine and heavier convex edge that an actual kukri does. So if you are a Kukri fanboy that is getting all worked up because a mere machete is masquerading as your beloved kukri, stop...calm yourself...you're an idiot. What this cutting implement is, is a machete with a forward curving blade that helps to draw material into the edge. It does look like a sirupate kukri, but it's not. Okay now that's done. The blade came with a slight wire edge, but was ground symmetrically. Furthermore the black coating was not the usual matte finish, but a thicker satin coating. I have one other machete that has this finish. It makes me wonder if Cold Steel has two factories or contractors in South Africa and one uses this enamel finish. Either way it has stood up to medium use everyday for a week with only a loss of sheen. The handle is the same as found on the Kukri machete. It’s noticeably smaller than the handle on the Royal Kukri machete but would only feel too small to people with large hands. Unlike the smachet machete and the cutlass machete, the handle is molded rubber with striations on the front and back with checkering on the sides. It’s very grippy and holds up well on the other machetes I have used for longer. The sheath is the usual nylon with a thin plastic lining. The end cap is a single piece of plastic and the cutting edge side has metal rivets reinforcing the seam. There are two snaps on the spine so the curve of the blade doesn’t make for a wide sheath. There is one caveat about this style of blade. They can be difficult to use. Where as straight bladed machetes can be swung with only passing attention to what part of the blade the material contacts, a forward curved machete is quite picky. If you strike too far forward or to far back on the edge, it will dramatically reduce the depth of your cut. Like the kukri it’s modeled after, these are not the easiest blades to use without practice. If I was going to hand someone a machete, it would be a straight bladed one. I love the forward curving blades, and they can cut like demons, but they require special attention to work most efficiently. All of that to say, don’t get this for your first machete. Grab an 18” Latin machete or a 14” bolo. It’ll be easier to use. Overall a good, compact machete that is easy to swing in close confines. Would recommend to anyone that is not buying their first machete.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Chopped down a tree with it easily, as fast as an axe
*by A***R on August 22, 2016*

Holds up to abuse well. Chopped down a tree with it easily, as fast as an axe, faster than a large fixed blade. For the money is a great blade, but I do have a few minor complaints 1. The blade has to grind to it. It's essentially flat the entire way up from the bevel. But the bevel is so gradual it works great for whatever you need from it, it's a machete thing. 2. I'd recommend using gloves with it, the handle will be rough on your hands after periods of extensive chopping, I got blister the first time I used this knife for several hours. But it could easily be avoided with care 3. It came rather dull, much more dull than I had expected, I sharpened it myself with a very basic sharpening system and it held that edge through a tree and more It's made in south Africa. Maybe the cold steel production group there doesn't quality control as well, or maybe cold steel just doesn't ship machetes as sharp as their folders, but it wasn't a big deal to me. This is probably the best kukri you could get for this price if you want to get some use and abuse out of it. If you somehow managed to break it, less than twenty bucks isn't anything to cry about, but from my heavy chopping and mild prying it hasn't ever given me reason to think it would fail when I needed it not to. Great product, would buy again.
