The Arizona, just back from Fleet maneuvers, was tied up in "Battleship Row" along Ford Island. Most of the crew was at breakfast. Gunfire and the sound of bombs broke the quiet, and rushing to the deck, the sailors meta full attack underway. In a frightening, terrible instant, the Arizona took a torpedo in her port side, a large bomb "amidships", and an armor piercing bomb in the forecastle. Eleven-hundred seamen lost their lives. As a remembrance to the men of the Arizona, a simple memorial and flagpole were erected over the ship. From the Manufacturer This proud ship remains synonymous with America's entry into World War II. What other materials do I need to buy? What kind of glue / paint / knife / anything else? Pls let me know, thanks!!** A: I use an X-Acto #1 knife with a few #11 size blades. These are great. I highly recommend a Tamiya 74001 Side Cutter for Plastic (or similar product but the Tamiya one is top quality) to remove parts from the trees. For glue, old fashioned Testors tube glue is handy for the main hull parts and sticking some of the small parts in place. For overall gluing, I use Tamiya Extra Thin liquid cement. Some Tamiya Basic (grey) putty will be handy for the hull seam, if that kind of thing is important. You can get some assorted wet and dry sandpaper from a local hardware store to smooth out the putty. I chose not to use the kit's somewhat inaccurate painting guide and used colors based on specific Arizona information you can find online. But, in general, I used some of the excellent Tamiya spray paints for the hull and superstructure colors. I finished the decks by hand with several coats of enamel wood color/deck tan paint. If you don't have all of the supplies up front you can pick them up as you need them. Some things like a parts cutter are fairly expensive but once you have one, you have it for many, many, years. You might also check out some of the model ship building boards online such as steelnavy.com that have discussion forums, galleries of built model photos, historic information, etc. **Q: Does it come with that paint job** A: No. My husband had to paint this project himself. **Q: can an 11 that in impatient build this easily** A: My first impulse is to say no for two reasons. One you have to follow the instructions exactly and they are a little confusing. It takes patience to follow them. And two I have another son who is turning 11 soon and he is not very patient. I can't imagine he could sit and follow the instructions start to finish without getting frustrated. It is a good product but not for a kid who doesn't like to take their time and be detailed. My soon to be 11 year old has built several snap tite models and has enjoyed doing them. They only take maybe a half hour to do and the instructions are easy to follow. **Q: I know it may seem silly, but is there a fraction of a chance this thing could float? I know this may depend on workmanship, and density.** A: It is not specifically designed to float out of the box.Anything can float if you do it right. This model is a split hull design. That is, the hull is in two pieces, left and right halves. Overall, he was able to do all but the hull assembly (which was a bear!). At least on ours, the two pieces were warped and did not want to fit together properly. Ended up using super glue and holding them together for almost an hour (contours didn't allow for clamps to be used).
