Steps are included for rolling gum in powdered sugar (not included) to prevent the surface from sticking and to have a sweet first taste for the gum. (Citric acid is suggested for dusting and to have a sour initial taste and that is included.) Steps are also included for adding food color, but food colors are also not provided in the kit. Also, there is an activity for designing packaging for "marketing" the gum, but the supplies listed for this activity are not included in the box. These include markers, paper, scissors, and tape or glue. Some reviewer also point out that kitchen supplies are needed that are not included such as a microwave safe disposable cup, foil, something to stir the gum base with as it is being heated/melted, and other items. Because of that I suggest the adult prepare for the activity ahead of time by opening the box and reading the booklet to avoid any disappointment at production time. **Q: Are the ingredients gluten free?** A: I almost didn't notice a very small note on the box beneath the French Ingredients list that says, "Manufactured in a facility that handles allergens." Here are the Ingredients: Corn Syrup, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Salt, Vanilla, Citric Acid, Gum Base, Sugar, Sucrose, Cornstarch. Dry Powder (sic) Dextrose, FD&C Red No. 40 (Allura Red), Silicon Dioxide, Ethyl Alcohol and Artificial Flavoring, Tricalcium Phosphate, Propylene Glycol. NOTE: Ingredients are split out on the box by packet. I made an attempt to list the distinct ingredients. Please see the description or box side to confirm ingredients list is complete and safe for you or your child before using. **Q: Are there heating instructions for the stove? We don't have a microwave.** A: No, but I'm sure a double burner over low heat and a watchful eye would work. **Q: I have a ton of the gum base left over but no more flavoring packets. We read and understood the directions before we began. At first, I felt a bit overwhelmed as it seemed to be very difficult. The gum base was kept getting hard and extremely sticky but we kept at it and after a few more times in the microwave it was pliable. Also, we had to add more flavor. I couldn't taste the flavor at all using the amount the directions gave. I will say it is a very messy project but definitely fun and tasty!!!Note: if you fully read the directions it does say you may need to put in the microwave for longer, add more water, and add more flavor. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bubble Gum Factory *by C***N on January 8, 2010* I purchased two of these, one for a 12 year old boy and one for an 8 year old boy. I actually thought the 12 year old would enjoy it more than the 8 year old, but I might have been wrong. The personality and curiosity of the boy comes into play with this kit. If your child has no interest in finding out about how things are made and how things work I don't recommend this. But if you have a curious child that enjoys finding out about things this is a good kit. It comes with everything to make gum and I actually chewed some of the gum my grandson made. It was flavorful, very chewy and was great for blowing bubbles and making loud popping noises. It does need adult supervision and muscles. It was somewhat complicated, but as stated previously, the boys now know what is in gum and how to make it. You can make traditional flavors or crazy flavors, depending on your personality and daring.
