Does it also stop starlings getting onto the feeder?** A: I wouldn’t think so. I haven’t seen a starling in the garden for years, but it doesn’t stop woodpeckers. And jackdaws and magpies are too big to perch, and anyway their weight closes up the feeding holes, but they fly at the feeder knocking it sideways so it sheds a scattering of seeds. In my last garden squirrels used to shimmy up the pole, lean across to the perch ring and grab seed, I used to grease the pole...so funny to see them slide back down again! It was too much hard work for them and they eventually gave up. But the shield is brilliant at keeping the rain out of the feeding holes and keeping the seed dry. We live in a rural exposed position so when we have storms and driving rain I tape a stiff plastic curtain round the windward side of the shield. The birds don’t seem put off by it. I’ve rambled on. So I would think starlings, if they couldn’t perch like my woodpeckers, would give it a good shaking like the magpies and jackdaws scattering seed below. Good luck. **Q: Does this include the feeder? One description says yes the other says no?** A: No, the weather guard is just that - it offers some rain protection to the feeder ports. It does not include the feeder **Q: What is the inside diameter of the weather guard?** A: I’ve just been out to measure it. The hole that slides onto the squirrel buster feeder is approximately 4”/10cm diameter and the outside edge is approximately 13”/34cm diameter. It’s difficult to measure accurately when it’s in place as the tube gets in the way.
