The rear part of the latch is really just to park the bolt out the way. I actually used these horizontally on large ill fitting pump station doors to help pull them together to stop them rattling. **Q: What is diameter of bar or what size hole do I need to drill in ground** A: The hole you need is 15mm diameter. The bolt comes with a ground plate so you can see the size of the hole you need. We didn’t need to use the ground plate as we already had a hole but our previous bolt had become rickety.
