Limiting review to a likely Gen 1 unit. - After I inherited a house, I decided to automate lights, pool pumps, etc. as a means to control power, ensure equipment was running, make the place look lived in, and automate this with HomeAssistant. Worked great to start, but over time, these Shellys have been becoming problematic and just dying off. I've removed at least 4 now, with today's being the pool pump which, with water flow requirements, controls the chlorine generator (saltwater pool). My only solution is to remove ensuring the pool doesn't go green, or spend more money replacing and possibly having another future issue. I am sad to say I have removed the Shelly 1PM. This is unfortunate because I was able to use the Shelly power monitoring with Node Red in HomeAssistant to remotely determine when the salt cell needed cleaning. Disclaimer so not to impute subsequent model improvements: I believe my Shelly is a Gen 1 device. It just doesn't work. Second, there's a neutral wire involved in any wiring set-up, you just have to find it. In your case, if there's no neutral wire in the switch, then that means the wiring runs breaker-fixture-switch instead of breaker-switch-fixture. You can still use one of these relays, you just need to put it in the fixture junction box instead of the switch junction box. I had to do that in my office in my house, and it works just fine. Disconnecting and reconnecting a ceiling light fixture is a little more of a hassle than doing a wall switch, but it does work. **Q: Is this switch UL Listed?** A: They are now. **Q: If connected to a traditional switch, how does the rocker work if you want to control manually? Does either up or down turn on and off?** A: Basically what it does is it’s a remote shut off switch. So if the switch is on when remotely shut off, you will have to turn off, then back on for manual use, and if off, you just flip it on then off, to turn it off **Q: Is there a way to use this switch to convert my buried in the wall, not-smart, 2 wall switch, no neutral wire, 3-way light circuit to be "smart"? How?** A: The switch has relays which can be controlled by MQTT plus they have an app and a public API you can communicate with if you have development skills. It does say it support Alexa and Google home but I didn't use that functionality - but I assume it links to the above-mentioned API endpoints? The Shelly website is very comprehensive, and they have a good support team so it might be worth checking with them. Otherwise, it's probably not what you're looking for. It's more a foundation for someone to build IoT devices on rather than a 'smart' switch like the kind of thing you'd find in Best Buy or a similar retail store aimed at regular consumers.
