I gave it a quick test and works perfectly, sound and vibration alert. The light comes on when you turn the unit on. I ordered the black waterproof version. It came with a coiled stretch cord to attach to your wrist or belt which I wasn't expecting but really like. It stretches to around 3 feet making it easier to keep track of. Works fine for this as long as you have a rough idea (within a couple of feet) as to where they are supposed to be. I've not tested the water proof claim but its not something I would rely on for more than a few minutes and only in shallow water.
