I have even spilled paint on it and other various things and all of it has been washed off with warm water and a little dish soap. In fact, I have gotten in the habit of every few months cleaning the outside with warm, soapy water (don't soak it, just dampen it and wipe with dry towel) and then applying mink oil on it. I recently put Minwax Paste Wax on it and am even happier with the result. Just by this little love every few months, I can still say this will last a lifetime. If anything ever happened to this wallet, I would without hesitation buy it again. I regularly get compliments on it as well. This works best for a wallet (instead of a checkbook cover only) as it is large enough to hold I.D., credit cards, money, etc. For a checkbook cover only, it's larger and bulkier than necessary, but again, this is designed to be a wallet, not a checkbook cover.
