Great for PC to Android data transfers

*by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2014*

These flash drives are one of the cleverest ideas I've seen in quite a while. I have both an Android phone and a tablet, and it's sometimes a nuisance to have to use Cloud storage to transfer files back and forth between them and the PC. This is a much faster and easier way to transfer large files, like videos or music collections, to an Android. The small size makes it easy to play videos straight off the flash drive as well. Much handier than using an OTG cable and a regular flash drive. I also use my tablet for serious writing, and it's important to be able to back up data, whether I have Wi-Fi access at the moment or not.I purchased both the 16 and 32 GB sizes. The 16 holds 15.5GB, and the 32 shows 28.8GB available. All flash drives tend to round up, and seldom have their stated size actually available, so that's normal. Both the standard and micro USB connectors work properly. My laptop doesn't have USB 3 capability, so I can't verify the read/write speeds. They do seem a bit faster than my old USB 2 flash drive.Important Note: The packaging says "Android 4.0 Required", but that doesn't tell the whole story. Your Android device also has to have the hardware required to act as a USB Hub. The fact that your device can charge through the USB micro port does NOT mean that your device can act as a host, or power another device using the Android battery. Your Android device also has to have the software to be able to mount USB Flash drives, and have some sort of file manager to let you Copy, Delete and otherwise manage the files on the Flash drive. For example, my Samsung Galaxy S3 recognized the Flash drive as soon as it was plugged in. Yeah, Samsung!! My Google Nexus 7 (2013), although it has the hardware to act as a USB Host, has that feature disabled. You have to buy an App from Google to be able to read files from a Flash drive. Grrr. And the official Google App will only read media files, and won't let you write to the Flash drive at all. Double Grrr. I had to Root my Nexus, and install an App called "StickMount" in order to be able have full read/write access to the Flash drive. So you need you to make sure your Android device is physically capable of using a Flash drive. Even then, be aware that certain companies, like Google, may have turned off that feature in their version of the device. If the feature is just turned off, it will usually require rooting the Android device, which voids your warranty, in order to turn the feature back on.

Good... but slow transfer speeds (write) and oversized for USB Ports

*by R***E on Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2017*

I bought this after doing tons of research on MicroUSB drives for mobile phones. I have a Note 5 and had no problems inserting it in (its OTG compatible out of the box). I transferred roughly 28 files - mostly photos and a few videos totaling 158 MB - so nothing to large. I used ES File Explorer Pro as it has a more robust interface than Samsungs my files app. Transfer/Write speed averaged 4.5MB~9MB per second - well below what is advertised! When trying to insert it into my PC's USB, i had to use quite a bit of force, and even heard a scratching sound. I pulled it out to see that part of the color had come off. Apparently its slightly oversized. I tried this on 2 different laptops and both had the same result.I would say buy at your own risk - if its for your phone only then you should be fine (again if its OTG Compatible.) I wouldn't recommend if you want to quickly plug into your laptop and back to your phone.

So Far So Good ... BUT They've Significantly Raised The Price!

*by T***G on Reviewed in the United States on April 9, 2014*

I'm using mine to store and to later transfer, large files like movies and videos, from my desktop computer to my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. It's well built and with an excellent transfer speed. I love the dual design (USB 3 on one side, micro OTG on the other). Note that this is quite small (about 1/3 the size of your little finger) and the USB side does not have a cover. I store mine in a tiny Ziploc. Also, you will need an app like Nexus Media Importer for it to work on your Nexus 7. The app cost me $3.99 ... a great investment to give your Nexus 7 (or most other Android tablets) unlimited storage capacity.BUT ... I bought my 32GB for $20.99. A few weeks later I went to buy another one and they had raised the price to $29.99. I felt they got greedy and didn't buy the second one. You can beat their greediness by purchasing an "Importer 520 USB A Male to Micro USB Female Convert Adapter" for about $1.99 and than buy any micro USB OTG flash drive (which should be less expensive).
