The parts are made from high quality Basswood - a low knot wood - perfect for modeling. Only simple tools are needed - snips or good pliers or cutters. Just cut the wood dowels to length and join the pieces. No need for screws or nails. Although I didn't buy this from Amazon, it's horrible enough for me to want to make sure NO ONE buys this kit by accident thinking it's a good kit. The craftsmanship is horrible. Splinters everywhere. Holes aren't aligned. Dowels don't fit pre-drilled holes. Pre-drilled holes aren't centered so wood splits easily. Instructions aren't clear, drawings look like a 5 year old made them. If this thing cost like $9, maybe it would be ok. But $30? STAY AWAY.
