The unit is powered by USB which is ideal because we have some usb sockets behind our bed. There are batteries required if you need a battery backup.The digits are white LED and when they are off you cannot even see where they would be, so the clock looks like a piece of wood. I really like the sound activated light, it means that the digits are off until you click your fingers or make a noise, which is ideal at night.The clock was very easy to use and set, just follow the instructions provided.
