Review: Best Respirator Mask in the Disposable Line of Face Masks - Hi, This disposable 3M 8293 P100 mask is amazing. It blocks all foreign odors such as stinky, musty, moldy odors and tobacco smoke smells (and more). For starters, all disposable mask work/seal best on a clean shaven face (no mustache, beard or side burns). If you have facial hair, you will never get a good fit/seal when wearing a disposable mask and/or half mask respirator. If you don't have a correct seal, the mask will not do its job as advertised (another reason why soldiers are not permitted to have facial hair). The facial hair rule is mentioned a lot in 3M's online safety documentation. Secondly, according to 3M, a medium sized mask/respirator fits 80% of humans. If your nose is too large/long, try a larger mask. Test out the seal at your local store that has a garden center that sells plants/fertilizer. You will know you have a good fitting mask when you can't smell the plants/fertilizer. Do this first before wearing the mask in a hazardous situation/area. Thirdly, the World Health Organization (WHO) says that in cities with poor air quality, that a mask with a PM2.5 rating must be warn to protect your lungs. PM2.5 masks protect people from breathing in particles (particles in the air) that are larger than 2.5 microns. This mask protects people from particles 0.3 microns or larger and makes almost all smells/odors undetectable to the human nose. If you are traveling outside the US (or live in a smog plagued city like Las Angeles, CA) then, a P100 Mask is the best form of protection to protect your lungs. It's best to carry a few of these P100 disposable masks while traveling in other countries and to store opened masks in an air tight, resealable plastic bag (like a ziplock) to increase the life of the mask (an air tight plastic bag protects the mask from absorbing odors/moisture). This mask works best with DEWALT DPG82-11 Safety Glasses (prescription eyeglasses friendly). I own a pair of these safety glasses and I wear them over my prescription glasses comfortably without my prescription glasses fogging up due to the comfortable foam seal that travels around the frame of the safety glass lens). These can be found on desertcart for around $11 (see desertcart product title below): DEWALT DPG82-11 Concealer Clear Anti-Fog Dual Mold Safety Goggle. Bottom line: The 3M 8293 P100 Mask is amazing and is a great addition to bugout bags and emergency/survival kits in your vehicle/boat/motor home. Also, they block out stinky poo gas odor, urine odor and decomposing flesh odor (like dead animals found while fishing/hiking/camping). They are great to use while cleaning homes/businesses or using the restroom after someone else. I use these masks from time to time in moldy/mildew infested environments and I breath clearly without any issues. If your prescription glasses are fogging up, pinch the bendable metal strip (hard/firmly), within the mask, that rides on the bridge of your nose (above your nose just below the center of your eyes) to prevent warm, humid air leaving your lungs from fogging your glasses (or use this mask with the Anti-Fog Dewalt DPG82-11 Safety Glasses). If your glasses are still fogging up, pull the mask off your face about an inch and pinch the bendable metal strip, within the mask, before lowing the mask back in position over your mouth/nose for a better fit. The metal strip should form over the bridge of your nose and fit snug on the sides of your face below your eyes. Hope this helps others out. Note: I wrote this review without pay from anyone because I like how much this mask helps me out. I didn't receive anything for recommending the Dewalt Safety glasses either. This review included my personal review and facts from websites such as 3M (the manufacturer of this P100 disposable mask and WHO (The World Health Organization). Review: Asthmatic use - An asthmatic, I cannot remain in some environments due to fragrances, fumes, airborne particulates, etc. I have been using the N95 masks, but they did not protect me from stronger fragrances and fumes. This 100 mask did the trick. It has a seal inside that your body heat adheres to your face. The mask improves with use as it conforms to your face. A woman, I removed the elastics and used a thin but strong elastic wrapped around my ears. A thick elastic does not do this efficiently as it is abrasive to the back of the ear and can "pop" off. The mask is made with plastic holders for the elastic, allowing easy adjustments that hold. This mask is really well made and I get enough use from one that I consider it economical. I keep it in one of those promotional cosmetic bags that has a zipper in my purse. Home Depot just starting carrying them so in a pinch, I pay more. One is rated for harmful vapors and one is not. So far I cannot tell the difference. What changed dramatically for me was going from an N95 or P95 to an N100 or P100. OH YEAH, I no longer even bother with a mask that has no ventilation valve - A life saver from heat build up in the mask and foggy glasses!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: With a P100 rating, why do you exclude asbestos under specific uses?**
A: The US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) established respirator filter classes. P100 means that the respirator is approved for particles including oily mist, and has a filtration efficiency of >99.97% against the NIOSH certification test. US OSHA regulates safety in workplaces. OSHA doesn't allow disposable respirators (filtering facepieces) for asbestos. Asbestos remediation should be done by professional asbestos remediators as there are many additional requirements including proper disposal of asbestos contaminated material.

**Q: 8233 vs. 8293 masks by 3M-what is the difference?**
A: The 3M 8233 is a N100 rated respirator with an exhalation valve. It is suitable for non-oil applications, like welding or grinding. The 8293 is a P100 rated respirator with exhalation valve. It will filter 99/97 % of oil and non-oil based particulates

**Q: Is this a good mask for a GO bag?**
A: If you mean a bug out bag for survival then yes it would be great in the sense that it is well made. IT is a little big and doesn't fold flat well but is the best of this type I have found. I grind steel and love these. As far as a bug out bag goes I am using the 3M 9211 Cool-Flow N95 Particulate Sanding Respirator. It comes in a ten pack and fold flat yet still has the valve. Those valves are a must for comfort! These are what I put in my packs or bags, and they are individually packaged. But the bigger and better one would be great for the truck bug out gear etc. I'd recommend you get it and the one I mention and see what I mean. And use them both as I do for the proper sized bug out bag. The fold up ones will fit in your pocket, but they don't seal as well, but you can place ten of them in your cars, bags, packs, office etc and at least have you have better than average protection from dust.

**Q: Is this effective after multiple uses? I am buying the mask to protect myself against fumes from car exhaust & burning trash piles.**
A: As long as it stays dry and fits your face well it should be fine for multiple uses. If using for disease purposes, it needs to be dry. If it gets wet or damp it should be switched for a dry one but could be used again once dry as long as it was not "soaked".

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very Good For A Disposable
*by A***R on July 11, 2016*

A good fitting and sturdy disposable mask. I used it to clean out old outbuildings and didn't notice any odor whatsoever when I got the right fit. They breathe well too, which is very important on hot days. I have a long nose but this was comfortable and worked well. I've since purchased a regular respirator, but when I needed a disposal for the occasional job it was nice to have this relative inexpensive option for a heavy duty respirator (beyond simple dust). I still carry a couple around, as you never know when you might need something on the spot.
