Since they are a little harder than other crayons, I do find that a couple of the colors don't color as vibrantly as other brands, notably the pink. They are also not marked as "washable" but we have not had any problems with that aspect either. Do markings easily wipe off of a table or other surfaces?** A: Yes. My daughter uses them on our counter and inevitably there are stray marks where she misses the paper. I just use a mr clean magic eraser and they are gone. Other cleaners work too. **Q: I want to buy my almost 11 month old her first set of crayons, but my main concern is her trying to eat them. Would these be good to start with?** A: I have used Melissa & Doug crayons for several years with children of various ages -- including very young children who are still "mouthing" objects. I have seen many children leave bite-marks on Melissa & Doug Jumbo Triangular Crayons, but I have never seen a child be able to bite-off a bit of these crayons. I would recommend these for your daughter's first crayons. Many children can mark on paper using crayons by 10-12 months old. However, do not expect her to "scribble" until 13-18 months old. **Q: What are these really made of? I don't think they could be completely plastic - ?** A: I'm not sure what they're made of but it appears to be the same material as most crayons. I've had one set of mine for at least 8 years and I use them in my work with young children, so they get used several times a day and they are holding up very well. They're perfectly sized for little hands to grasp onto & not get frustrated with! They are also EXTREMELY STURDY as well! My almost 2 yr Grandson who could destroy a tank without breaking a sweat has had these crayons for 5-6 months now & NOT A SINGLE ONE IS BROKEN! Not even chipped! These are definitely the most incredible Crayons available! He used to get bored or not show much interest in coloring due to the combined frustration of not being able to grasp on to regular ones and when he did they'd almost immediately break every time. Leading to him either melting down or just not bothering with it much. Not with these Crayons though! I have art work all over my house! Both on paper & on the "walls" leading to the next best thing about these....there very easy to clean up after mistakes or intentional drawing on surfaces I'd rather he didn't.
