While there are some differences in character descriptions in this book it is mostly unimportant. You get a much better feeling of what emotions the characters are going through during different scenes. You also get a much better idea of the lessons Yoda puts Luke through, as well as a better feel of time passing during the relationship. The movie always made it seem that a couple days go by, but the book somewhat shows more time passing. I was a little dissapointed with the ending of the book. It may just be me but it felt less intense than the rest of the writing. However, Darth Vader's emotional attack on Luke is explained beautifully.
