**Q: Does this item require drivers for windows?  which usb receiver does it use?**
A: I believe it uses the Tenor TE7022L receiver - isosynchronous but not asynchronous.  See test at Head-Fi.

This is is the perfect solution I was looking for. I needed a USB to SPDIF to connect my iPad to a HIFIMAN HM 901s player. The whole idea was to stream lossless music from TIDAL service and take the raw digital music from the iPad and pass it to the HIFIMAN 901 and use the much better DAC and amp of the player.Previously to the PHIREE US2, I purchased a Peachtree Audio X1, there times more expensive, for the same purpose, but it didn't work. The X1 needed to much power.The PHIREE U2S sounds great, looks very sturdy with its metal construction, it is very affordable, it doesn't require much energy to work with an iPad and it is half the size of the Peachtree audio X1.Great product, I highly recommend it.

Using this device to send optical audio to high-end amplifiers at 96KHz. Sounds great. Now I need something better than CDs (44.1KHz) to listen to. DVDs of classic rock.

Great product, fully supported by Windows, no driver is necessary. Truly plug-n-play. A perfect solution to stream youtube music from my computer to stereo amplifier/speakers. To use it, Just simplyswitch the default sound device from your computer speaker to the new SPDIF device (which is the phiree u2s) . The setting switch is done under Windows Control Panel/Sound/Device Management.
